East Lothian U3A is a member of the Third Age Trust and a registered charity. Founded in 1999, it is the second largest of 23 separate U3As in Scotland.

East Lothian U3A is run by a committee elected by the membership. It is a self-help organisation with no central office. The members contribute to its activities in many ways.
